Counselor's Corner

Dear Families of Mapletown Jr./Sr. High School,

My name is Mr. Thomas Fink and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the parents and students of Mapletown Jr./Sr. High School, and to express to you my excitement to serve your students as their new school guidance counselor. I feel fortunate to have been selected to work with you and the students to meet their many needs. Research shows that professional school counselors serve a vital role in maximizing student success. Through leadership, advocacy and collaboration, professional school counselors promote equity and access to rigorous educational experiences for all students. Professional school counselors support a safe learning environment and work to safeguard the human rights of all members of the school community, and address the needs of all students through culturally relevant prevention and intervention programs that are a part of a comprehensive school counseling program.

I would like to take this opportunity to share some information about my background so we can begin to get to know each other a little better. I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Sociology from Duquesne University. From there I began my professional career working at with The Children’s Institute. I continued on with my education, earning a Masters Degree in Education/School Counseling and a Certification in Sports Counseling at California University of PA. I have experience working with youth in Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas as a school guidance counselor, coach, and as a drug and alcohol counselor at Gateway Rehabilitation Center.

I’ve been impressed with the students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators I have met at Mapletown Jr./Sr. High School. Everyone has been very friendly, helpful and positive. I am confident that we can all work together to help your child succeed. It is critical that we create a solid working partnership and keep an open line of communication; by opening the lines of communication early we are able to help the students achieve their educational goals.
I look forward to working with you,

Thomas C. Fink, Jr. M.Ed., NCC
